An antimicrobial plastic film releases its antimicrobial agent at a controlled rate. Various mathematical models for diffusional migration were introduced, simulated by computer programming, and compared to determine their mathematical characteristics. Potassium sorbate in low density polyethylene (LDPE) film migrated into water, and the diffusivity was measured by monitoring the concentration of potassium sorbate in water. The diffusivity of potassium sorbate in the LDPE was 2.49¡¿10^(-8) §²/sec, and this value is very close to the diffusivity in the literature obtained using conventional penetration experiments.
